Eden Garden at Trinity Church, Northport

Trinity Church in Northport is proud to announce the establishment of the Eden Garden, a sustainable initiative aimed at combating food insecurity and fostering community connection. Funded through grants, this project features raised aluminum beds where a variety of vegetables and herbs are grown, including tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, and herbs like basil and parsley. The primary objective of the Eden Garden is to provide fresh, healthy produce to those in need, particularly through partnerships with local food pantries such as the Lay Eucharistic Council Food Pantry in Northport.

This initiative not only addresses immediate nutritional needs but also serves as a hands-on gardening experience that fosters a spiritual connection with the Earth. Participants, including parishioners and community members, are invited to cultivate the garden, thereby nurturing both the land and their own well-being. The garden provides a serene refuge, offering solace from the hectic pace of life and promoting a sense of community among volunteers and recipients alike.

In the wake of increased food insecurity on Long Island, as highlighted by Long Island Cares' report of a 28.4% rise in food distributed to local pantries, the Eden Garden stands as a beacon of hope and compassion. Through the act of giving and sharing, the ministry aims to alleviate loneliness and disconnection, reinforcing the values of grace and generosity that lie at the heart of our spiritual lives. All are welcome to join us in this vital ministry of compassion, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
