Since 2020, Holy Apostles Episcopal Church has walked faithfully with the students and families of PS 15 The Patrick Daly School in Red Hook, Brooklyn—a public 3K–5th grade Title I school where need is constant and compassion is essential. In partnership with Principal Julie Cavanaugh and her team, Holy Apostles has become a responsive, loving force for good: providing groceries, school supplies, rent support, utility assistance, relocation help, clothing, and more.
Recently, the conversion of a nearby motel into a family shelter for newly arrived migrants has overwhelmed the school’s ability to meet basic needs. Families now arrive with no money, no kitchens to prepare food, no legal ability to work, and no essentials like coats, phones, or laundry money. With almost no city support, PS 15 turned to Holy Apostles for help—and the church has responded with over $6,000 in grocery gift cards, back-to-school clothing, and vital supplies, all distributed with dignity and without barriers.
More than a ministry of charity, this work is a channel of unconditional love—the kind of love that asks few questions, moves quickly, and meets people where they are. The school has credited this partnership with transforming not only family lives but also the culture of the school community, where many previously hesitant parents have begun to give back and engage more deeply. For Holy Apostles, this ministry is about seeing each neighbor as a beloved child of God—and ensuring they know they are not alone.
