For decades, St. Mary's Episcopal Church has been more than a place of worship in Lake Ronkonkoma. It has grown into a lifeline for neighbors navigating food insecurity, isolation, and the quiet strain of a high cost of living that outpaces what the census numbers show. What began as a modest outreach effort has expanded over time into a network of ministries under one roof: Playtime Preschool, a bustling food pantry, the Nearly New Thrift Shop, and support groups for people in recovery and grief. Together these ministries welcome thousands of individuals and families each year, many of them working people who earn just above the threshold for public assistance yet still struggle to make ends meet.
Now, through Mission at the Table, St. Mary's is turning its attention to the literal heart of that hospitality: the parish hall kitchen where so much of this care has been prepared and shared. As the surrounding community continues to change, St. Mary's continues to grow its capacity to gather people around food, fellowship, and faith. Community meals, educational workshops, and expanded volunteer opportunities are becoming a steady rhythm of parish life, each one rooted in the conviction that breaking bread together is itself a form of ministry.
