Trinity Community Art Center is a community-based arts initiative of Trinity Episcopal Church in Northport, offering accessible visual and performing arts education to residents of all ages and backgrounds. Founded in 2023, the Center operates as a secular, welcoming space with programming that spans figure drawing, portraiture, plein air painting, abstract expression, art history, and interdisciplinary arts experiences. Classes are affordably priced, and a scholarship fund ensures that cost is never a barrier to participation.
The Center was born from a simple observation: Northport has a vibrant arts culture, but accessible exhibition and instructional space is scarce, particularly for emerging artists, youth, Spanish-speaking families, and those who have historically been outside the doors of established galleries. The Center's programming is intentionally inclusive, with bilingual workshops, intergenerational classes that bring seniors and young people together, and exhibitions that address social themes and elevate diverse voices.
EMLI's grant will help the Center take a significant step forward over the next year. Funding will support the hiring of two to three paid teaching artists, the expansion of class offerings by 40%, and outreach into five neighboring townships: Kings Park, Smithtown, East Northport, Huntington Station, and beyond. It will also underwrite the cost of art supplies and classroom infrastructure, community exhibitions, and program support for students and seniors. The goal is not only to deepen the Center's roots in Northport, but to grow into a regional creative hub into a place where art becomes a vehicle for connection, healing, and belonging.
